Azeb Mesfin will continue serving as board president for the Ethiopian Coalition for Women against HIV/AIDS. The widow of former Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was re-elected on February 26, 2014. Besides Azeb, Aster Mamo, chief government whip was among those elected to fill the seven board positions. The Coalition, which was formed in 2003, consists of tens of thousands of women from every region in Ethiopia. Its main aim is to stop the spread of HIV and harmful traditional practices.
Azeb founded not only the Ethiopian Coalition of Women against HIV/AIDS, but also Ethiopia’s National Initiative for Mental Health for which she is also a patron.
