Ethiopian women are caring, beautiful and hard worker among the society both in the rural and urban areas. Every woman educated or not they have there own smartness which is given from above. We are the mothers, the wives; we are everything that any man can be. But the truth is men can not have what women have therefore; I believe we are special even from the beginning.

Every woman has tremendous potential. This hidden potential can be unleashed if a conducive environment is provided. As individuals, poor women are voiceless, powerless and vulnerable – but, bring them together and make them aware of their rights, and they have tremendous strength. Women working together in networks and associations improve outcomes for themselves and their families, and deliver broader social and economic benefits for all.

Even in the old days women has shown there strength in different ways. Like The Empress held a hard line against the Italians, and when talks eventually broke down, and Italy invaded the Empire from its Eritrean colony, she marched north with the Emperor and the Imperial Army, commanding a force of cannoneers at the historic Battle of Adwa which resulted in a humiliating defeat for Italy in March, 1896.

There are many famous and successful Ethiopian women who are unable to live in their own country because of many reasons and provide their potential all over the world.

Some of them are:-

  • Lia kebede – Model and maternal health advocate, who was appeared on the cover of American Vogue on three separate occasions. In 2007, Forbes ranked her as the 11th highest paid model worldwide.
  • Amsale Aberra is an Ethiopian-born American designer and entrepreneur. Her main field of design is in couture wedding gowns, and her flagship store is located on Madison Avenue in New York City.
  • Professor Sossina M. Haile Professor of Materials Science and of Chemical Engineering California Institute of Technology (CalTech). Many other professional women all over the world.

There are and were many more strong, successful and famous Ethiopian women all over the world. But as it is well known the current situations especially from the government sides is making it so hard especially for women fruitfulness. Therefore the women of Ethiopia were and are forced to leave their country and provide there energy and potentials abroad.

In general what I would like to present is that we women are able to do anything anywhere in any terms. We can change the world into a better world if we are given the chance!

Hope one day we all go back to our country and do all we can and help our country for better future!

long live Ethiopia!

Happy womens day!

Amsale Berhanou
