While Africa is known for its abundant natural resources and fertile
lands, over 90% of the continent’s citizens are forced to live below
absolute poverty because of tyrannical rulers that enrich themselves
and their cronies. Many African people are living under non-elected
dictator’s rule with gross human rights violations and lack of
freedom. Many are forced to migrate out of their homelands seeking
freedom and glimpse of prospect for themselves and their families.
Many western countries, the US in particular, are continuing to do
business and providing financial and military aid to such autocratic
rulers disregarding the gross human rights violations by these so
called “Africa leaders”. For these western leaders there is only
one interest to look after, the interest of their liberated and rich
citizens, not the rights of the poor Africans.
Many brave Africans who dare to speak out have either been
illuminated, forced into exile or imprisoned. Journalists and bloggers
have been labeled terrorists and thrown in to jail. The western
nations and their instruments of neo-colonialism, such as the World
Bank and United Nations, only provide lip service with bogus press
releases and statements that will be forgotten right after the
microphone is turned off while their practice of facilitating
oppression by the dictators continues everyday through their corrupt
practices.
In the coming week US president Barack Obama has invited all African
“heads of states”, many of them absolute dictators and puppets,
such as PM Hailemariam Desalegn, to discuss how they will be able to
earn more from the US tax payers as well as how they can loot the
continent’s natural resources and sell it for collaborative greedy
individuals and corporations under a disguise of investment. How long
is the world going to continue to give a blind eye to the “Second
scramble for Africa” for its land, oil and other natural resources in
the name of development and aid?
Let us be the voice for the voiceless African people who are suffering
from this unholy marriage of the rich nation’s leaders and their
dictator allies in Africa. Our protest may not stop the injustice on
our people overnight but will certainly be appreciated by our people
who are suffering under dictatorship every day. It will give hope to
the heroe and heroine citizens who are languishing in the jail cells
and concentration camps of these dictators. Our continued effort to
advocate for justice and human rights is our God given responsibility
that defines our Humanity. More than any creatures of God on these
Earth we, the humans, are expected to speak and stand for justice for
others.
Join us for a protest rally at the 2014 US African leaders’ summit.
