In connection to Addis Ababa’s zone and Oromia’s special joint master plan, Oromia’s Radio and Television did an investigation regarding this. They stated that 20 journalists who have been dismissed from work was because “they had skewed political view,” they reported.

In the master plan during the month of May, the politician, the journalist and the authorities, participated in a meeting regarding the master plan in Adama. There have been many protests regarding the master plan around University campuses as well as in the cities. Following this protest, there have been many more investigation and more meetings have taken place.

During the meeting that took place in Adama regarding the master plan, many sources reported the different types of question journalist posed centering around freedom of press and speech, and current events. Furthermore, similar questions have been raised during the month long training as well.

Following the training’s completion, last Wednesday the journalists were refused entry to their offices.  During questions with current events and country affairs, the journalist stated that they were dismissed from work because of their opposition and freedom of speech. Therefore, when they expressed their views freely they were dismissed from work.

In previous master plan meeting, the journalist expressed that the master plan would not be well taken by the public. Thus, they would struggles to sell it to the public and they challenged their bosses with questions regard how the public was going to feel about the whole mast plan. The authorities and the politicians claimed that the journalists had “skewed political views.”  In opposition to the master plan, and in trying to combat the protests to the plan, they should have used tear gas instead of shooting at them and killing them, one of the reports dismissed from work has stated.

Our efforts to get reasons from Oromia’s Radio and Television’s as to why the journalists have been dismissed from their work have has failed.

From Addis Ababas zone and Oromias special zone master plan meeting that started last month, May, is still in progress elsewhere in the different cities.
