We are pleased to inform you that we Ethiopian exiled journalists in Kenya have established an association, Ethiopian Exiled Journalists Alliance. The association is comprised of more than 30 exiled journalists, and is a sole representative of all exile Ethiopian journalists in Kenya. It is mainly intended to overcome the problems and challenges faced by these Journalists, and help them have a better future.
As it is known, there are uncountable horrendous problems Ethiopian journalists are facing in exile in Kenya. They have problems ranging from security to financial and psychological. And these couple with prolonged and ridiculous UNHCR’s ELIGIBILITY and resettlement processes and other related challenges complicates their situation and threatens their lives. EEJA strives to find practical solutions to these problems, and serves as a bridge between the journalists and responsible bodies including UNHCR, NGOs, and other concerned groups.
We believe the challenges of exiled journalists can only be solved when there is the participation and commitment of every responsible body and concerned group. And to make that happen, we advocate the problems of the journalists and lobby all responsible bodies to give attention to the problems and to take part in the effort to overcome them.
EEJA also work to promote solidarity among the journalists. It organizes series of meetings and events in order to facilitate experience shearing and exchange of ideas among journalists. Above all, we advocate to bring attention to the press freedom violations in Ethiopia, and works with partners to coordinate advocacy campaigns and joint calls for action.
