Chicago, IL – The Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago calls community members in the Chicago area to gather for a candlelight vigil for victims of the recent tragedy in Bishoftu to take place this Thursday, October 6, 2016, 6:00pm at the ECAC Community Center (1730 W Greenleaf Ave).
On Sunday, October 2, 2016 hundreds of Ethiopians perished and thousands were injured in Bishoftu in the Oromia State of Ethiopia following mass protests that led to clashes with security authorities and a mass stampede. Tens of thousands of people gathered to celebrate the Annual Iretcha Holiday, a major Oromo cultural and religious holiday event that takes place every year around this time. It is very unsettling that such a great celebration this year has turned into a mass tragedy.READ FULL STORY IN PDF
