The much-awaited women’s soccer league finally returns to action this weekend after a month’s absence.

REPORT BY RANGANAI DZOTIZEI

The league has been inactive since October 6 with 12 games having been played.

Women’s soccer boss, Mavis Gumbo confirmed the development saying the delay was necessitated by the need to keep the girls’ fitness level high ahead of upcoming international assignments.

“We wanted to make sure we don’t end the league early as we have games in December, so we delayed the restart to make sure they don’t break before the international matches,” she said.

The Zimbabwe Under-20 women’s national side would battle it out in the Zone Six championships in Zambia in December.

The Under-20 side are the defending champions, having won it in Namibia.

Meanwhile, the Mighty Warriors meet Ethiopia in this year’s Unity Cup on December 22.

The match has become an annual event with the Mighty Warriors set to defend the Cup they won last year after beating South Africa.

This saw the women’s football team storming into the world of rankings.
