ETHIOPIAN Airlines is the flag carrier of Ethiopia. During the past 65 plus years, Ethiopian has become one of the continent’s leading carriers, unrivalled in Africa for efficiency and operational success, turning profits for almost all the years of its existence.

Operating at the forefront of technology, the airline has also become one of Ethiopia’s major industries and a veritable institution in Africa.
It commands a lion’s share of the pan-African network including the daily and double daily east-west flight across the continent. Ethiopian currently serves 69 international destinations operating the newest and youngest fleets.

Strategic Partnership: Ethiopian established partnership with ASKY airlines, a community airline based in Togo-Lome, that realised its long-time vision of creating a West African Hub. The establishment of ASKY is an important move for a historic intra-African cooperation in the airline business.
Special Features: Cloud Nine: Combined service of First and Business Classes. Cloud Nine has the space, comfort and a style of service that makes flying with Ethiopian Airlines a pleasure all the time.
Economy Class: Passengers are offered 12 audio channels with access to a video library of more than seven titles.
Frequent Flyer Programme: ShebaMiles is Ethiopian’s Frequent Flyer Programme. As a member of ShebaMiles, members accumulate miles which will entitle them to award tickets, award upgrades, access to executive lounges, additional free baggage allowance and many other privileges. The more they fly,

the higher the benefits. Since December 2011, ShebaMiles has a frequent flyer programme partnership agreement with over 27 airlines including all the Star Alliance member airlines and over 10 non-airline partners (hotels, restaurants, shopping centers etc…) where members have the privilege to earn and redeem miles whenever they use the services of these partners.
Passenger Airport Terminal:    The Addis Ababa Bole international Airport is the major hub for Ethiopian Airlines and one of the largest airports in Africa. The ultra-modern airport terminal was inaugurated on January 21, 2003. This spacious terminal handles all international flights with its 21st century facilities.

 

Addis Airport is the busiest airport in East Africa with a capacity of providing a world class passenger and cargo services to more than 6,5 billion international and domestic passengers each year.

 

Capacity building:    Training

 

Ethiopian is self-sufficient in all aviation training systems. The Ethiopian Aviation Academy offers training for:
•    Pilots
•    Aircraft technicians
•    Cabin crew (Service Trainee)
•    Marketing and Sales as well as Management and Finance staff
•    B757/B767 Simulator
•    B737 NG Simulator
The academy provides training services and management assistance to many other countries. It also provides recurrent training to technicians, pilots, marketing and sales staff and cabin crew.
Branch offices:    Ethiopian has city and airport offices at locations to which it operates. At other major locations it is served by accredited and designated General Sales Agent (GSA).

The new cargo terminal covers:
•    Apron area:   44,390 square meters
•    Terminal size:  14,000 square meters
•    Capacity:  350,000 tones of air cargo per annum
•    Cold room size:  2,000 square meters, cold room storage: 130 tones of palletised cargo
•    Office area:    4,500 square meters
•    Parking area:  19,200 square meters
Maintenance hangar

The state-of-the-art maintenance hangar with a span of 7,200 square meters and a height of 25 meters can accommodate one B747-400 or two B737-700s or two equivalent size aircraft at any given time in different configuration.

 

Maintenance capabilities

Ethiopian has an advanced maintenance base, which is fully operational for Airframe maintenance up to D-Checks, Engine, Overhaul, Components repair and overhaul, Light Aircraft maintenance and technical, and management assistance for other airlines. The maintenance base is certified by the US- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

 

Personnel secondment

Ethiopian provides management and technical assistance to other airlines on secondment basis by availing trained and skilled manpower in different areas relative to the airline industry.
