Taesha Benson, 32, gave her boyfriend, Travis Spire-Sweet, her left kidney as the ultimate gift of love.
Is this the greatest Valentine’s Day gift ever?
Taesha Benson, 32, could lay claim to that honor after giving up a kidney to boyfriend Travis Spire-Sweet, 30, who she’d been dating for less than a year.
The heartfelt gesture came after Benson discovered her kidney was a perfect match for the love of her life – who has struggled with a partially functioning organ since birth, KAIT-TVÂ reported.
After his parents were told he would not survive past his first birthday, Spire-Sweet has battled ever since and become an advocate for organ donation.

Despite only knowing the acupuncturist for under 12 months, Benson of Overland Park, Kan. said she knew instinctively that it was “the right decision”
She said: “Initially you think, ‘How could I do that? I don’t have it in me.’ But over time I got to know Travis and his love of life.
“Not many people come along who have his integrity, character and optimism. Travis just happens to be my boyfriend. He has provided me with a new love of life.”

Benson was a perfect match to donate a kidney to Spire-Sweet.
The couple underwent surgery at Kansas City Hospital, Missouri, last week and spent Thursday – universally recognized as a day for lovers – recovering at home.
Spire-Sweet said he was overwhelmed by the gift, which he said was even more extraordinary as it came from someone he loved.
He said: “I leaned over and saw that she was awake (after the surgery) and she was okay.
“And I was, like, ‘That’s the person who saved my life.’ I couldn’t have asked to do it with someone more precious and special.”
