April 12 (Bloomberg) — U.K. Africa Minister Mark Simmonds comments in April 10. intv.
* U.K. will “do all it can” to ensure funding continues at     same level for African Union peacekeeping force made up of     troops from Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya, Sierra Leone and     Uganda.
* U.K. and intl partners having “very thorough and     comprehensive discussion to ensure security gains are not     lost” that have been made against al-Qaeda-affiliated     militia al-Shabaab: Simmonds
* U.K govt has “commitment and prioritization to U.K. making serious contribution to assisting in the rebuilding of     Somalia”: Simmonds
* NOTE: African Union and Ethiopian forces have pushed al-    Shabaab back from key areas over last year, including the     capital Mogadishu and the port of Kismayu.
* NOTE: Somalia elected a new government in September in a bid     to end more than two decades of conflict.
* NOTE: U.K. and Somalia governments host intl conference in
London on May 7 to discuss reform and state building in     Somalia.
