Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam, slated for completion in 2017, is projected to be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa, generating 6,000 megawatts of energy for Ethiopia and its neighbors. The project has also generated controversy in terms of its environmental and social impacts, as well as tensions with Egypt over control of the Blue Nile headwaters.
Dr. Brook Hailu Beshah has served as a fulltime and adjunct professor at universities in Africa, Europe and the US, lecturing in the fields of international relations, political science, journalism and media. He served as Ethiopia’s Deputy Ambassador and Permanent Delegate in Washington (2001-2004) and with UNESCO (2004-2006), with the senior diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. Currently he is a full time professor of Social Sciences and Humanities at Strayer University in Akron, Ohio, as well as an adjunct professor at the Ohio University Scripps School of Journalism; Ohio University Center for International Studies; and at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Public Policy.
