First Scientific Conference on Medicines Regulation in Africa WHAT: Media is invited to attend the official opening of the first-ever Scientific Conference on Medicines Regulation in Africa WHO: The Conference, organised by the NEPAD Agency will be attended by experts from the South African Department of Health, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative(DNDi), US-Food and Drug Administration (US-FDA), policy makers, regulators, academia, research organisations and scientists. WHEN:  2- 3 December 2013. Registration starts at 8am WHERE: Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa. OR Tambo Conference Room. SUMMARY: The conference will provide a platform for exchange of information on innovative approaches for the development of the pharmaceutical sector in Africa. It is also aimed at creating a platform to address issues affecting areas of delivery of medical products and technologies to the public Background:  Medicines regulation remains an important but neglected component of promotion and protection of public health in many countries in Africa. NEPAD and its development partners, are spearheading the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonisation (AMRH) initiative through Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and countries. The AMRH initiative is implemented under the framework of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa (PMPA). Media is invited to attend the opening ceremony.
